( As on 18/02/2019 13:48) Sensex falls 199 points; Varun Beverages jumps nearly 2%

The equity indices are trading in red since morning and have their streak in afternoon session as well. All the sectoral indices are trading in red led by energy, FMCG, auto, pharma and IT. The shares of Varun Beverages jumped nearly 2 per cent on Monday afternoon after the company's Chairman Ravi Kant Jaipuria said that the company was planning to acquire franchise rights for Pepsico products in south India, Maharashtra and Gujarat. The agreement will be for a national bottling, sales and distribution footprint in 7 states and 5 Union Territories, subject to receipt of necessary statutory approvals.



At 13:27 hours, the SENSEX was trading at 35610.23 down by -198.72 points or by -0.55 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 10668.65 down by -55.75 points or by -0.52 per cent. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 35912.44 and intraday low of 35525.96 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10759.9 and intraday low of 10639.5.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 137.45,+1.74%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 695.95,+1.37%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 473.50,+1.29%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 148.80,+0.92%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1519.00,+0.61%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 1979.00,-2.56%), YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 213.15,-2.54%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1365.50,-2.13%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 215.65,-1.48%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2779.65,-1.39%), among others.



Among sectors, Metal index was at 10016.63 up by 2.29 points or by 0.02%. Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 141.50,+2.09%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 473.50,+1.29%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 148.80,+0.92%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 45.20,+0.78%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 92.25,+0.49%),. On the flip side, IT index was at 15223.13 down by -155.31 points or by -1.01%. Birlasoft Ltd. (Rs. 96.20,-12.07%), Take Solutions Ltd. (Rs. 103.00,-5.46%), Infibeam Avenues Ltd. (Rs. 38.10,-3.54%), Genesys International Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 121.20,-2.61%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 1979.00,-2.56%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2639, shares advanced were 903 while 1586 shares declined and 150 were unchanged.
