The key domestic benchmark indices opened higher in the morning trading session amid strong cues from other Asian peers.



The market may see stock specific movement as slew of companies will announce their quarterly results today. On the economy front, retail inflation cooled to a nine-month low in July thanks to a sharp decline in price increase of food and beverages, which is likely to provide some room to the Reserve Bank of India to contain raising interest rates.



On the corporate front, shares of Allahabad Bank will remain in focus after the government terminated Allahabad Bank managing director Usha Ananthasubramanian from service for involvement in USD 2 billion Nirav Modi scam.



On the earnings front, big companies like Sun Pharma, DB Realty, Fortis Healthcare, SpiceJet, Grasim Industries, and IDBI Bank, will report their quarterly earnings later in the day.



At 09:20 hrs, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading at 37793.01 up by 148.11 points or by 0.39 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 11397 up by 41.20 points or by 0.36 per cent.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 584.00,+2.60 per cent), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2660.00,+1.04 per cent), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1299.90,+0.96 per cent), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1409.00,+0.76 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 567.00,+0.76 per cent), among others.



Meanwhile, YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 369.00,-0.57 per cent), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 1993.00,-0.37 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 136.00,-0.26 per cent), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 324.75,-0.15 per cent), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1266.80,-0.14 per cent), were among the top losers on BSE.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 539, shares advanced were 334 while 163 shares declined and 42 were unchanged.



On the global front, Asian stocks were trading higher as tremors from the collapse of the Turkish lira ebbed a little, while the Wall Street closed lower in the previous trading session as a deepening economic crisis in Turkey dragged down Wall Street.
