( As on 15/11/2019 09:34) Sensex, Nifty open in green; Rupee opens higher

Indian equities opened in the positive territory on Friday, tracking positive Asian cues and gains in key equity indices. Asian equities rose on Friday after the S&P 500 index notched a new record closing high, but investor sentiment remained fragile following weak data from China and Germany, which reinforced concerns about the global economy.

On the corporate front, Vodafone Idea on Thursday posted the biggest quarterly net loss in India Inc's history at Rs 50,922 crore after providing for payments related to adjusted gross revenues (AGR). Bharti Airtel, too, reported a pre-tax loss of Rs 31,334 crore for Q2FY20 due to outstanding AGR payments. Given the jump in deferred taxes (tax reversal), the reported loss at the net level came in at Rs 23,045 crore.

On the currency front, Indian rupee gained in the early trade on Friday. It opened higher by 18 paise at 71.79 per dollar versus previous close 71.97.

Meanwhile, White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow's comment that Washington was getting close to a trade agreement with China lifted Asian equities on Friday. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.34 per cent. Japan's Nikkei added 0.58 per cent and Australian shares gained 0.53 per cent.

At 9:17 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 40417.51, up by 131.03 points or by 0.33 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 11911.95, up by 39.85 points or by 0.34 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 78.75,+2.67%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 170.35,+2.01%), State Bank of India (Rs. 311.50,+1.76%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 138.40,+1.58%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 7326.70,+1.10%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2181.00,-0.66%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 497.50,-0.25%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 118.30,-0.21%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 3228.25,-0.19%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 715.00,-0.12%), among others.

Auto index was at 18510.3 up by 160.87 points or by 0.88%. Ashok Leyland Ltd. (Rs. 81.70,+3.35%), Apollo Tyres Ltd. (Rs. 165.75,+1.94%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 169.95,+1.77%), Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (Rs. 836.00,+1.60%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 7332.00,+1.17%),.

Whereas, Realty index was at 2126.96 down by -1.44 points or by -0.07%. Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 70.25,-4.94%), Sunteck Realty Ltd. (Rs. 404.00,-0.76%), Phoenix Mills Ltd. (Rs. 705.00,-0.50%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 300.15,-0.22%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 985 , shares advanced were 606 while 340 shares declined and 39 were unchanged.
