( As on 15/11/2019 08:33) Pre-Session: Sensex, Nifty likely to start on positive note today

Indian benchmarks are expected to start the day on a positive note on Friday, but it would remain volatile as investors juggle between weak economic conditions and progress in US-China trade war.



Investors will look at global cues, stock-specific action, the rupee's trajectory against the US dollar, and foreign fund flow for market direction today. About 17 companies are scheduled to announce their September quarter numbers today.



In another development, Moody’s has cut India's calendar year 2019 GDP growth forecast to 5.6 per cent from 6.2 per cent, citing a consumption slowdown, which would weigh investors sentiments.



On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 40286.48 up by 170.42 points or by 0.42 % and then NSE Nifty was at 11872.1 up by 31.65 points or by 0.27 %.



On the global front, the benchmark S&P 500 stock index posted a slim gain to end with a record closing high on Thursday, as a dour forecast from tech stalwart Cisco Systems was offset by a strong report from big box retailer Walmart, according to a Reuters report.



The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.63 points, or 0.01%, to 27,781.96, the S&P 500 gained 2.59 points, or 0.08%, to 3,096.63 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 3.08 points, or 0.04%, to 8,479.02.



Asian equities rose tracking gains on Wall Street, but investor sentiment remained fragile following weak data from China and Germany.MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.34 per cent. Japan's Nikkei added 0.58 per cent and Australian shares gained 0.53 per cent.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 22.08 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 36942.38 Crore.



On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 352204 with a total turnover of Rs. 25239.44 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 772370 with a total turnover of Rs. 43161.18 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 45560874 with a total turnover of Rs. 3047323.12 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 735614 with a total turnover of Rs. 44105.82 Crore.



The FIIs on 14/11/2019 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 7989.83 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 505.46 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 6470.96 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1483.08 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1518.87 Crore and Rs. -977.62
