( As on 15/02/2019 16:30) Post Session: Sensex ends 67 pts lower; pharma, metal stocks crack

Indian benchmark equity indices reeled under selling pressure for the seventh straight session Friday as pharma, metal, auto and banking stocks led losses amid sustained foreign fund outflows, muted earnings season and weak global cues. Asian stocks fell on Friday, retreating from four-month highs after data out of China raised concerns over deflationary pressures building in the world’s second-biggest economy. On the macro front, rising global crude prices dented the rupee, which depreciated by another 28 paise to 71.44 against the dollar intra-day. The Brent crude futures, the international benchmark, advanced to USD 65.10 per barrel, their highest level in nearly three months.



The 30-share index closed at 35808.95 down by -67.27 points or by -0.19 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 10724.4 down by -21.65 points or by -0.2 per cent. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 36022.57 and intraday low of 35510.97 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10785.75 and intraday low of 10620.4.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 136.20,+4.13%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 180.30,+3.12%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 135.10,+2.27%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1243.50,+1.47%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1243.25,+1.31%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 423.30,-3.94%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 467.45,-3.12%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 147.45,-2.87%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2702.30,-2.75%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 2557.50,-1.90%), among others.



Among sectors, Power index was at 1784.93 up by 37.99 points or by 2.17%. Adani Power Ltd. (Rs. 39.40,+6.06%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 136.20,+4.13%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 180.30,+3.12%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 69.25,+2.44%), KEC International Ltd. (Rs. 244.95,+2.25%),. On the flip side, Metal index was at 10014.34 down by -237.96 points or by -2.32%. JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 267.20,-4.72%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 138.00,-3.16%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 467.45,-3.12%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 44.85,-3.03%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 147.45,-2.87%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2835, shares advanced were 1003 while 1671 shares declined and 161 were unchanged.
