( As on 14/08/2018 11:41) Markets maintain momentum; Axis Bank, HUL top gainers

The key domestic benchmark indices were trading in the green in the late morning trading session amid gains in Bank Nifty and PSU bank index.



The market may see stock specific movement as slew of companies will announce their quarterly results today. On the economy front, retail inflation cooled to a nine-month low in July thanks to a sharp decline in price increase of food and beverages, which is likely to provide some room to the Reserve Bank of India to contain raising interest rates.



On the corporate front, shares of Allahabad Bank remained in focus after the government terminated Allahabad Bank managing director Usha Ananthasubramanian from service for involvement in USD 2 billion Nirav Modi scam.



On the earnings front, big companies like Sun Pharma, DB Realty, Fortis Healthcare, SpiceJet, Grasim Industries, and IDBI Bank, will report their quarterly earnings later in the day.



At 11:35 hrs, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading at 37810.23 up by 165.33 points or by 0.44 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 11411.6 up by 55.85 points or by 0.49 per cent.



The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 37841.68 and an intraday low of 37689.71 while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 11419.35 and an intraday low of 11370.8.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 615.10,+1.62 per cent), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1756.15,+1.34 per cent), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 328.55,+1.01 per cent), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1421.35,+0.84 per cent), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2017.30,+0.84 per cent), among others.



Meanwhile, Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 213.75,-1.06 per cent), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 365.05,-1.06 per cent), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 373.75,-0.95 per cent), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 565.00,-0.74 per cent), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 277.35,-0.68 per cent), were among the top losers on BSE.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2453, shares advanced were 1206 while 1132 shares declined and 115 were unchanged.



On the global front, Asian stocks were trading higher as tremors from the collapse of the Turkish lira ebbed a little, while the Wall Street closed lower in the previous trading session as a deepening economic crisis in Turkey dragged down Wall Street.
