( As on 23/05/2018 14:28) Sensex down over 150 pts, Nifty slips below 10,500

The market extended losses on Wednesday post-afternoon trade following mixed cues from the global markets and on correction in metals, oil and HDFC twins stocks.



Asian stocks were mixed early on Wednesday after US stocks dropped on Tuesday after President Donald Trump said he was not satisfied with US-China trade talks, and said a highly anticipated summit with North Korea may not happen after all. European markets are broadly lower today with shares in Germany off the most. The DAX is down 1.37% while France's CAC 40 is off 1.19% and London's FTSE 100 is lower by 0.56%.



In commodities, oil prices held firm near three-and-half year highs on potential supply concerns surrounding Venezuela and Iran.



Beyond geopolitics, the Federal Reserve will release minutes of its latest policy meeting later today.



Back home, at 14:10 hours, BSE SENSEX was at 34496.58 down by -154.66 points or by -0.45 % and then NSE Nifty was at 10473.35 down by -63.35 points or by -0.6 %.



The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 34668.47 and intraday low of 34478.83. The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10533.55 and intraday low of 10465.9.



PSU Bank is the biggest gainer among sectoral indices, rising 4 per cent on the back of support from SBI, Andhra Bank, Bank of Baroda and IDBI Bank that gained 4-7 per cent.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 544.15,-5.73%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 1949.80,-3.18%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 180.45,-2.09%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1871.10,-2.05%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 355.45,-1.78%), among others.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were State Bank of India (Rs. 264.80,+4.19%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 167.50,+1.52%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 458.40,+1.19%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 311.20,+1.12%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 293.95,+1.10%), among others.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2774, shares advanced were 1274 while 1347 shares declined and 153 were unchanged.
