( As on 22/05/2018 16:35) Post-Session: Sensex, Nifty end marginally higher; SBI gains 4%

Reversing a five-session slide, benchmark index Sensex managed to close in green on Tuesday in see-saw trade as participants accumulated recently beaten down auto, metal, banking and realty stocks. Asian markets ended mixed following a good show by US stocks as investors applauded easing of trade tensions between the US and China.



Meanwhile, SBI rose 3.69 per cent despite the lender today posting a standalone net loss of Rs 7,718 cr in Q4 on mounting bad loans.



Further, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) made purchases worth Rs 1,190.56 crore while foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 496.03 crore yesterday, as per provisional data.



The 30-share benchmark index closed at 34651.24 up by 35.11 points or by 0.1 per cent, while the NSE Nifty closed at 10536.7 up by 20 points or by 0.19 per cent.

During the day’s trade, Sensex touched intraday high of 34754.6 and intraday low of 34550.22 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10558.6 and intraday low of 10490.55.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2013.75,+6.30%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2825.00,+3.86%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 307.75,+3.78%), State Bank of India (Rs. 254.15,+3.69%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 278.45,+3.23%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3508.05,-1.40%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1283.50,-1.27%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 522.00,-1.27%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1898.50,-1.19%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 278.80,-1.17%), among others.



Among the sectors, Auto index was at 24295.11 up by 413.76 points or by 1.73%. Ashok Leyland Ltd. (Rs. 141.20,+5.14%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2825.00,+3.86%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 307.75,+3.78%), Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd. (Rs. 334.20,+3.26%), Bosch Ltd. (Rs. 18122.45,+2.83%),.



On the flip side, Oil&Gas index was at 14254.12 down by -59.23 points or by -0.41%. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 161.55,-2.27%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 184.30,-0.70%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 926.90,-0.54%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 312.10,-0.35%), Indraprastha Gas Ltd. (Rs. 258.95,-0.27%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2921 , shares advanced were 1518 while 1250 shares declined and 153 were unchanged.
