Ecos Mobility Ltd - Strong business growth; but margin pressure persists | Q1FY27 Company Update
ECOS Mobility reported revenue growth ahead of our estimates in Q1FY27, supported by healthy volume growth, continued client additions and steady traction across both ETS and CCR businesses. However, profitability remained under pressure, with sustained pricing intensity in the ETS segment weighing on gross margins and resulting in EBITDA margins coming in below management’s earlier guidance. While the company has initiated tighter pricing thresholds, vendor negotiations and technology-led efficiency measures, we believe the benefits are likely to accrue only gradually. Factoring in the continued margin underperformance and lower visibility on a near-term recovery in profitability, we reduce our earnings estimates and lower our target valuation multiple. We remain cautious on the stock in the near term and would look for a sustained improvement in margins and earnings delivery before turning more positive.
ECOS Mobility Ltd. Stock Price Chart
Strong revenue growth:
The company reported a revenue growth of 16.7% YoY to Rs 2,114mn (MNCL est – 2,101mn). This growth was driven by growth across both the ETS and CCR division. ETS and CCR division revenue contribution stood at 59% and 41% respectively for the quarter reporting a growth of ~ 17% each. During the quarter company onboarded 61 new clients – 15 in this ETS division and 46 in the CCR division.
Change in product mix and higher employee costs impacts margins:
Gross margins for the quarter contracted by 242bps YoY and 175bps QoQ to 24.9%, primarily due to elevated pricing pressure in the ETS business, where competitive intensity remained higher than anticipated. This pressure flowed through to operating profitability, with EBITDA margin declining by 173bps YoY to 10.3% and EBITDA remaining flat YoY at Rs 218mn. PAT, however, increased by 9.5% YoY to Rs 146mn, supported by higher other income and a lower tax rate. Management has now reset its FY27 EBITDA margin guidance to around 10%, indicating that margin recovery is likely to remain gradual until pricing discipline improves and cost-efficiency benefits begin to reflect meaningfully.
Outlook:
We expect ECOS Mobility to continue delivering healthy topline growth, supported by strong trip growth, steady client additions, deeper wallet share with existing customers and continued expansion into new cities. The company’s ~19,500-vehicle network, presence across 151 cities, and growing enterprise client base provide sufficient capacity to support further scale-up, while the planned B2C app launch in Q2FY27, gradual EV adoption and the SIXT partnership offer additional growth avenues. However, near-term profitability is likely to remain under pressure, given intense pricing competition in ETS and limited visibility on a meaningful recovery in gross margins. Management’s tighter pricing thresholds, vendor negotiations and technology-led automation across dispatch, billing, contact centre and booking processes should help improve operating efficiency over time. We believe the key monitorable remains the company’s ability to sustain 15–18% revenue growth while protecting margins and improving earnings quality.
Valuation and Risk:
We expect ECOS Mobility to deliver Revenue/EBITDA/PAT CAGR of 17.2%/15.3%/16.3% over FY26–29E, supported by healthy enterprise mobility demand, rising GCC presence, increasing outsourcing of employee transportation and continued scale-up across ETS and CCR segments. However, given repeated disappointment on the margin front and limited visibility on near-term margin recovery, we remain cautious on profitability. Factoring in pricing pressure in ETS, lower average revenue per trip, elevated employee cost and onboarding costs for large clients, we reduce our PAT estimates by 10.5%/10.9% for FY28E/FY29E, respectively. We also lower our target multiple to 15x from 18x, given repeated disappointment on the margin front and limited visibility on near-term margin recovery, we remain cautious on profitability. Despite the cut in estimates and valuation multiple, the recent correction in the stock provides valuation comfort, supported by healthy growth outlook, strong cash balance and clean balance sheet. We value the stock at 15x Q1FY29E EPS, of Rs 13 and arrive at our revised target price of Rs 195.
